After heading to LiuHe Night Market, we went to the Love River (愛河) which was actually really neat. The city recently cleaned it up, and it looks pretty neat now, in stark contrast to the cesspool it purportedly once was.

Alright... I think I've been pushing people's patience by not updating my blog often enough. (I did try to give some of you a taste of what's going on through that last Facebook album, though!) So... I'm sorry! It's very easy to get distracted here as there's always so much going on, on top of the irritating administrative matters that seem to have been plaguing me lately. Largely fun stuff though!

Wow! I'm finally here in Taiwan... something I've planned for a long time, but still feels barely real!

Well, Vancouver Pride this year was lots of fun! This time, instead of being hung over from attending festivities the previous evening, I went to bed at a reasonable hour like a good little boy. The next morning, I woke up bright and early at 9:30am (!!!) and took the elevator down to Denman St. and set up some chairs to reserve valuable streetside parade-viewing real estate. I think I got us some pretty decent spots!

I sent Ryan off to fetch some breakfast as I kept our spots, and Catherine and Mom joined us. We looked like the happy family we were!

There were these 3 Chinese people speaking Mandarin who were watching the float beside us as well. They kept trying to get all the free stuff and were totally into the parade - running out to get an extra string of beads, a Green party button, stickers, free razors! - and they were so fun! When the naturalists went by (including a minimally-endowed gentleman) my exceedingly limited Mandarin became amusing as well as useful when I heard them exclaim "name xiao!" ("so small!") which of course made me laugh. I insisted on having a picture taken with them:

They were with an older Chinese guy who got hit in the stomach with a water balloon by the fire department's volunteers... but he took it in stride!
